Welcome to the NEWSPLAN West Midlands database
Local newspapers are a key source in researching the history of a community and gaining insight into events and activities as seen through the eyes of those who were there at the time.
It is hoped that this list of some 1100 newspaper titles published in the West Midlands region since the eighteenth century will enable researches to identify libraries and record offices holding copies of relevant newspaper titles.
The list is mostly based on data published in the original NEWSPLAN West Midlands report in 1990 (NEWSPLAN: Report of the Newsplan Project in the West Midlands, September 1988-September 1989 by Tracey J. Watkins. London: British Library, 1990. ISBN 0 7123 0236 0). Ongoing amendments will be made to the data but if you have any questions about an individual library’s holdings, please contact the library service directly.
